Thanks in large part to the unwavering support of our elected representatives in the U.S. Congress, the EKU Department of Chemistry has obtained a wide variety of up-to-date instrumentation for classroom and research use. Earmarks totaling over $500 thousand in the past couple of years have been devoted to acquiring new instrumentation. In addition, state of the art instrumentation will be purchased as part of the new science building project.

Collaboration with Other EKU Research Centers

Chemistry faculty and students take part in various collaborative cross-discipline projects. Several faculty members in the Chemistry Department participate in research projects with the Center for Renewable and Alternative Fuel Technologies (CRAFT: www.craft.eku.edu) and the Environmental Research Institute (ERI: http://www.environmentalresearchinstitute.eku.edu/).

New Science Building

The Department of Chemistry is expecting to occupy a new science building in Fall 2011 that will be complete with modern laboratory facilities for faculty and students. Construction for Phase 1 of the New Science Building has begun. Denark (Knoxville, TN) was issued a contract by the KY Commonwealth on Jan. 23, 2009. The substantial completion date is projected to be May 26, 2011.
