Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track) Position Open - Physical Chemistry

The Chemistry Department at Eastern Kentucky University seeks applications for a tenure track assistant professor with appointment to begin August 15, 2010. Teaching responsibilities would be coordinated with other physical chemistry faculty and would include upper-division (calculus- and non-calculus-based) and graduate-level offerings, including labs, as well as introductory and general chemistry. EKU Breaks Ground for New Science Building that will house Chemistry

Ground-breaking for the New Science Building has begun (click for full article). The substantial completion date for the project is scheduled for May 26, 2011.

 

Mission Statement

The Department of Chemistry at Eastern Kentucky University provides a learning environment which enables students to obtain a strong foundation of chemical knowledge, laboratory skills, and problem solving skills at levels appropriate for the variety of students that we serve. The Department also provides service to the University community, to the chemical profession, and to the larger society, and is committed to engaging in scholarly activities on fundamental and applied problems in chemistry and chemical education.

 

The EKU Chemistry Department offers B.S. (ACS-accredited), B.A., and M.S. degrees in Chemistry and serves over 350 majors between these and its other programs in Forensic Science, Biochemistry, Pre-Professional Sciences, and Secondary Education. The department currently has ten full-time faculty, a departmental administrative assistant, and a lab manager. We have an active research program that involves both masters and undergraduate students and our faculty have published in various research journals. EKU Forensic Science Program

The Eastern Kentucky University Forensic Science Program is also housed through the Department of Chemistry. Even though is was established in 1974, the program has gained a national reputation for excellence in Forensic Science undergraduate education. The EKU Forensic Science Program is one of only 11 undergraduate programs in the country that is accredited by the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (www.aafs.org).
